Jonathan Bourne Public Library
The Jonathan Bourne Public Library, originally housed in a small 2,000 sf structure from 1897 and moved to a renovated 1924 red-brick school in 1987, suffered from a lack of general space. With shelves stocked to capacity and larger materials housed in inadequate spaces, the need for expansion was prevalent throughout the library. Feasibility obstacles centered around these problems, as well as finding additional room for once-absent staples such as quiet study areas, climate-controlled rare book storage, and a sufficient supply of offices.
