Design Week Celebrations come to Rhode Island

September 12, 2014 - In celebration of the rich and diverse nature of design in Rhode Island, DESIGN WEEK RI will kick off on Wednesday September 17th for ten days offering lectures, open studios, events, and even an architectural pub crawl.

We are proud to participate as part of the Open Firms Night on September 24th, where design firms in Pawtucket, Providence, and Warren will open their doors to offer a look at their work along with refreshments.

DESIGN WEEK RI celebrates design and the Rhode Island design community with nationally recognized speakers, local design superstars, a design treasure hunt, open spaces, cocktail receptions and a design hall of fame. This inaugural event packs in over a week of design happenings, highlighting our mainstay design events and adding on celebrations, special speakers and tours around design in RI.

Rhode Island is hot-bed of creativity and design. We have the 3rd largest percentage of creative sector jobs in the country, after New York and California. The design industries in particular continue to grow: between 2007 and 2012,500 new design businesses came online in the state, despite the recession. Further, we have the 2nd most industrial designers per capita than any other state. Surely, being home to the World’s #1 Design School – the Rhode Island School of Design - feeds this concentration of creativity.

DESIGN WEEK RI is the first event to bring together design related gatherings and activities that showcase the innovative and economic impact of design practices across the state. Spanning all disciplines of design, DESIGN WEEK RI creates a platform for cultural and commercial opportunities, elevates established and emerging design disciplines, increases awareness of local design talent and encourages appreciation for all design by all audiences.

Creatives, business owners, students, non-profits, entrepreneurs, partners, sponsors and the general public will converge in downtown Providence and throughout the State of Rhode Island to celebrate design. Join us!
